X-linked ichthyosis is an X-linked recessive inherited skin disorder in which the causative gene is located on the X chromosome in the steroid sulfate esterase (STS) gene. Since males have only one X chromosome, males who carry the causative gene show symptoms of the disease, while females are usually carriers with mild or no symptoms.
